TowerAbout the Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research

Welcome to the Penn State Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research

The Marcellus Center brings together into one place Penn State’s considerable expertise and leadership on issues related to Marcellus and other gas shale development.  As such, the Center is a valuable resource for the diverse group of stakeholders involved with or affected by exploration and production of natural gas.

The Marcellus Center intends to explore the geology, technology, economics, business and sociology of the Marcellus Shale with a goal of understanding both the resource as well as the environmental, economic and social challenges posed by its exploration and development.  By leveraging the University’s significant strengths in outreach and research, the Center will serve all stakeholders, including landowners, local and state government, natural resource organizations, the natural gas industry and the concerned citizens of Pennsylvania.

We welcome you to learn more about the Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research and its research, education and information initiatives for the Appalachian region on gas shale development.
